Job Title: City Planner Organization: Office of School Support Services Office: Office of Pupil Transportation
Position Summary: The Office of Pupil Transportation services all students of New York City with transportation needs to and from school. The selected candidate will be charged with assisting the Manager of Operations Analysis with the administration of a GIS system for the development of web-based mapping applications, maintenance of map data resources and integration with existing databases and applications.
Reports to: Manager, Operations Analysis
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide hands-on systems implementation support including systems architecture design, design and performance tuning of geodatabases and mapping application design and deployment. • Development duties include the analysis, design, coding, testing, documentation, installation, and support of customized web mapping applications for data maintenance, geospatial analysis and modeling • Collect and interpret functional users’ requirements. Propose detailed requirements and driving successful outcomes through the implementation of client-focused solutions • Follow best practices in provisioning, implementation, and testing of enterprise GIS solutions, including IT security • Monitor performance and logs, work with DBA and network administrator to ensure system functionality • Troubleshoot ArcGIS Server, ArcGIS desktop and SQL Server issues and work with others in IT or vendors to resolve capacity issues, memory, network speed, software bugs and maintenance/licensing issues • Provide user and administrator training • Experience programming in ArcGIS and .Net environment • Prepare and load data from various sources into feature datasets and feature classes; maintain data and data library • Must be familiar with all ESRI spatial data formats and the editing/correcting of spatial data using ESRI tools • Design, develop, and maintain ArcGIS geoprocessing models and scripts to perform data preparation, loading tasks, automation, or improve workflows • Maintain user logins and access privileges • Perform geodatabase versioning, updating and appending, replication, compression, and optimization • Build map caches for use in ArcGIS Server web mapping applications

Minimum:
Qualification Requirements 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning; preferably transportation planning for a city or experience with geographic information systems for city transportation systems, or
2. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to "1" above. Graduate education in city planning, urban planning, urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, transportation engineering, public administration, economic development or related fields may be substituted for up to two years of experience, on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, one additional year of professional experience as described in "2" above.
Preferred:
• Experience with MapBasic/MapInfo • Experience with New York City GIS data sources
