UFA is recruiting for a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist for Salt Lake County Emergency Management (SLCO EM) and Unified Fire Authority (UFA). This position will be responsible for the planning, design, operation, and maintenance of the SLCO EM geographic information system in coordination with UFAs GIS and Information Technology personnel. Coordinates GIS projects and activities between bureaus, cities, counties, the state, and other organizations. Supports and designs workflow and application development, definitions and documentation, database design, maintenance, implementation, and integration with existing Salt Lake County and UFA data systems. Performs spatial analysis, and models complex scenarios in order to facilitate executive decision making. Publishes GIS services and map products to help SLCO EM and UFA achieve their respective missions and objectives.

Job Requirements

(Minimum)

Valid Driver's License

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's in Geography, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering, Cartography, or a closely related field with an emphasis in GIS and two (2) years of progressively responsible experience related to Geographic Information Systems. Additional related work experience or educational experience (i.e. internships and other placement programs) might be substituted for a portion of the required education at the discretion of the hiring team and evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

(Desirable)

Knowledge of emergency management and homeland security concepts; local government agency obligations under the National Response Framework, NIMS, and ICS (IS-00100.b, IS-00200.b, IS-00700.a, and IS-00800.b ).

Preferred candidates will possess knowledge of emergency management and homeland security concepts and have demonstrated experience with Spillman, FDM, Zoll and WebEOC software and technologies.

Preferred candidates will possess GIS certification from an accredited college or university, the Geographic Information Systems Certification Institute (GISCI), or Environmental Solutions Research Institute (Esri).

The successful candidate will be required to possess the following certifications from the Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA): IS-00100.b, IS-00200.b, IS-00700.a and IS-0800.b. If the candidate does not possess the certifications at the time of hire, they will be required to obtain them within the first nine months of employment.
