The Iowa Department of Transportation Office of Bridges and Structures has an opening for a Design Technician for one of the Final Design Sections in the office.
The job responsibilities would include:
Using CADD (computer aided drafting and design) to detail sheets to be included in simple to semi-complex structural plans submitted for letting; including bridges, culverts, sign supports, and repairs of all type of structures.
Performing final design of simple bridge component and non-standard box culverts.
Calculating quantities of all materials required for completion of plans for specific projects.
Reviewing plans that are submitted for approval by outside sources.
Reviewing shop drawings.
Successful applicant must be proficient in the use of CADD programs preferably the Micro Station CADD program and working with structural drawings.
Graduation from high school or GED and experience equal to six years of full-time work experience in design drafting, cartography, engineering survey, soils survey, land survey, construction inspection or photogrammetry;
an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year (thirty semester hours of its equivalent) of post high school education for each year of the required experience to a maximum substitution of two years;
substitution of one year (thirty semester hours or its equivalent) of vocational technical school education in engineering technology, design drafting, or cartography for two years of the required experience to a maximum substitution of two years;
substitution of experience in engineering survey, soils survey or construction inspection for each year of the required design drafting experience to a maximum substitution of two years;
employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to twenty-four months of full-time work as a Design Technician Associate.
